![]() Election Time is Just Around the Corner
By: Maureen Robinson
It is the time of year again when we are looking for residents who are interested in running for the PEPOA Board of Directors. The Board consists of nine homeowners elected by the members of the association to represent the best interests of the community. This year there are four positions up for re-election. Won't you consider running?
The requirements for a Directors position are actually quite simple: you must be a deeded property owner in good standing, must be at least 21 years of age, and be willing to make a commitment to fulfill the duties of a Director. This commitment includes attending regularly scheduled Board meetings, as well as any special meetings. In addition, you will be required to participate in committee workshops, and conduct telephone and E-mail communications, as required. And while Board members are not required to participate in recreational activities, doing allows you to get a sense of community and interact with other residents.
If you are interested in running for the Board, there are two ways to apply. The first method is to complete an application, which is available at the Administration building. The completed form must be returned to the office no later than February 23, 2008. You will then be contacted by the Nominating Committee who will conduct a brief and friendly interview. The second way to apply is to obtain signatures from fifty (50) members in good standing; one signature per lot. When all signatures are collected, the petition must be submitted to the Administration office for verification of the signatories. Keep in mind that all signatures must be submitted and verified by March 29, 2008.
All candidates are required to prepare a brief biography (300 words or less) and submit it, along with a .jpg file of a wallet sized photo, to the Harmony editors at pepoaharmony@yahoo.com, no later than March 2, 2008. Additionally, each candidate is given the opportunity to deliver a five minute speech at the annual Volunteer Dinner on April 26, 2008. This same speech will be given at the Annual Meeting on May 3, 2008, prior to the elections.
The election process is quick and simple. Upon completion of all candidates' speeches at the Annual Meeting, all members in good standing are invited to vote for four candidates of their choice; one ballot per lot. The ballots are counted immediately following the vote and the results are announced when the results are verified by the Legal representative. Following the announcement, newly elected Board members go directly into executive session to choose Board officers for the coming year.
Serving as a Director on the Board requires commitment and dedication. The return on investment is a sense of satisfaction, fulfillment and community. If you have a desire to make Penn Estates the premiere community of the Poconos and possess a strong sense of Penn Estates Pride, please consider throwing your hat in the ring. In order to change things, you must be involved in the process.
