NEIGHBORS HELPING NEIGHBORS...

"Neighborhood Watch is the most cost-effective crime prevention program in our nation today. National statistics show that neighborhoods involved in active programs are between 17% and 51% less likely to be victims of crime. But like any self-help program, its success depends on you and your neighbors."

Get Involved

Any community resident can join...young or old, single or married, renter or homeowner. The Neighborhood Watch Program teaches concerned residents how to look out for each other's safety and to help law enforcement officers protect residents and their homes against criminals. It is not a vigilante program, nor is it a program of citizens on patrol in their neighborhoods. It is a program that encourages neighbors to get to know each other, to watch out for each other, and to call an appropriate law enforcement agency when something just doesn't seem right. The Neighborhood Watch system relies on the willingness of people to get involved, stay informed of area problems, and work together on solutions.

Getting Started

The Penn Estates Public Safety Department and the Stroud Area Regional Police Department are collaborating to initiate the Neighborhood Watch Program within the Penn Estates community. Officer Kenny Palmer of the Stroud Area Regional Police, the surrounding Neighborhood Watch coordinators and the Penn Estates Public Safety Department are presently designing the structure of the program for our community.

Steps

A Neighborhood Watch representative will work with citizens interested in applying. Upon completion of an application, a criminal background check will be conducted. Pending approval, the applicant will then be registered with Monroe County Communications and assigned an identification card and number. Once approved, the new member will be able to participate in the Neighborhood Watch Program.
